Inside the waistband holsters are one of the most popular types of concealment holsters available.  They allow for the firearm to ride behind the belt at the waistband close to the body.  This allows for concealment of the grip of the firearm with an untucked shirt.  Certain belt clips also offer a tuckable design which allows one to cover the grip with a tucked in shirt.  The shirt is pulled out a bit to blouse over the firearm and further prevent printing of the grip (i.e., showing the outline of the grip, through the shirt, to the onlooker).  This still leaves the belt clips partially visible and this topic will be left for another blog regarding tuckable belt clip styles.

The cant angle is defined as the angle of the firearm to the belt line.  When the top of the slide is perpendicular to the belt line, this would be considered a straight or neutral cant.  The grip would sit fairly close to a parallel position to the belt line.  If the top of the slide is angled 10 or 15 or 25 degrees forward to this perpendicular line, the butt of the gun at the grip will rise higher and the grip will come closer to becoming more perpendicular to the belt line.  Some will prefer this grip angle to allow them to secure a more combat grip when starting the process of drawing the firearm.  This forward cant also allows for more concealment of the butt of the gun by moving it away from the belt line and putting is closer to the body.

Inward cant takes this a little further.  Although with appendix carry, the inward cant is helpful with a straight cant; for hip carry (2 o'clock to 5 o'clock for right handed shooters and 7 o'clock to 10 o'clock for left handed shooters, when considering the cross section of the body as a clock with 12 o'clock being the naval and 6 o'clock being directed behind the body) it is also very beneficial with a forward cant.  This inward cant is the rotation of the butt of the grip into the body which further conceals the grip abdominal region.  This is accomplished by adding material between the belt and the holster at the trigger guard area to push the belt away from the body and thereby pushing the grip further into the soft tissues of the abdomen.

As seen above, the spacer device is seen behind the belt below the grip which pushes the belt away from the firearm which can allow a shirt to cover this area with little to no printing, even when bending or squatting.

Holsters are a form of clothing and the fit and preference will vary from person to person.  Body type will also determine which type of holster is comfortable and conceals well.  Most any holster is going to be a compromise on comfort, to some extent, but the goal here is to make carrying as comfortable and functional as possible.

We hope this was helpful.  God bless you and yours.

11 But the
Lord is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
